Why identity and salt form belong in the brief.

A catalog name is the start of identification, not the end.

Specification documents and a molecular teaching model for material-identity review.

A catalog name is the start of identification, not the end.

Names can be ambiguous.

Abbreviations, trade names and historical catalog labels may not uniquely identify a material. Similar names can refer to different forms or modified materials. Identity review should therefore happen before price and packaging become the only focus of the enquiry.

Keep form information connected.

Salt form and other specified material attributes can be relevant to a project. They should be described consistently across the quotation, specification, label and supporting documents. A supplier should not silently substitute one named form for another.

Resolve conflicts explicitly.

If source tables use conflicting names or units, retain the conflict for review. Do not turn a likely spelling correction into a confirmed chemical identity without adequate support. On this website, unresolved source entries are held outside the public catalog until they can be clarified.

Questions to carry into the enquiry

  • Which exact material and form are being requested?
  • Which documents support the attributes that matter to this project?
  • What remains to be confirmed before a quotation is approved?
